Mike Cero: Husband, Father and Active Member of the Community

Mike Cero has an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the United States Military Academy. After serving in the Army Corps of Engineers for nine years, Mike earned an MBA with an accounting concentration from Seattle University where he also interned at PACCAR’s Kenworth Truck Company. He gained invaluable experience working on the Kenworth-Renton truck factory assembly line as a Unit Supervisor. After graduating, PACCAR hired him as a cost accountant. Mike worked his way up through management before leaving PACCAR to take care of his three young children.

Mike was first elected to the City Council in 2007. He has been serving on the Youth and Family Services Advisory Board, Parks and Recreation Sub-Committee, King County Committee to End Homelessness Governing Board, Public Safety Sub-Committee, King County Flood Control District Advisory Committee and the Renton Airport Advisory Committee.

Community involvement has always been a priority of Mike’s, often volunteering with his kids’ school and sporting events. Other community activities include: YMCA Guide and Westerner program, Lakeridge Chess Club Team Manager, Little League Baseball assistant coach, Boys n Girls Club Assistant Football Coach, PTA Legislative Representative, VFW Commander and Vice Commander, Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce, Mercer Island Rotary and Mercer Island Rotary Park Chairman.

Mike’s Army experiences include Ranger School, Senior Parachutist, Air Assault, two combat tours and more than six years of overseas assignments. He was awarded the U.S. Army Bronze Star.

He lives on the south end of the Island with his wife, Dr. Susan Cero, an orthopedic surgeon, and their three children, ages 15, 12 and 10.
